Temporary residence permit in the Kingdom for a long stay of 10 years (Long Stay O-X)
Visa issuance for foreigners aged 50 years or older who wish to travel to Thailand for leisure must meet the following qualifications:
- Foreigners of all nationalities aged 50 years or older (counting from the date of application).
- Must have nationality and hold a passport from one of the following countries:
- United Kingdom
- Australia
- Denmark
- Finland
- France
- United States
- Italy
- Norway
- Sweden
- Japan
- Canada
- Germany
- Netherlands
- Switzerland
Financial Criteria
- Must have a fixed deposit in a Thai bank located in Thailand of no less than 3 million THB, or
- Must have a fixed deposit in a Thai bank located in Thailand of no less than 1.8 million THB along with an annual income of no less than 1.2 million THB. Within 1 year, the individual must maintain a fixed deposit of no less than 3 million THB in a Thai bank located in Thailand.
The funds in item 1. or 2. must be maintained for at least 1 year. After this period, the funds may be withdrawn, provided that there is a remaining balance of no less than 1.5 million THB in the account. Withdrawals can only be made for expenses such as medical costs, purchasing a condominium, buying a vehicle, or educational expenses for children, and must occur in Thailand.
- No history of being a threat to the security of Thailand, the country of nationality, or the country of permanent residence.
- Must not have any prohibited diseases according to Ministry Regulation No. 14 (B.E. 2535), which include leprosy, tuberculosis in the infectious stage, elephantiasis, drug addiction, and stage 3 syphilis.
- Must have a health insurance policy in Thailand covering the entire duration of stay in the Kingdom, with a minimum coverage of 40,000 THB for outpatient treatment and 400,000 THB for inpatient treatment.
Legal spouses and children can apply for a temporary visa type “O-X” (Non – O – X) for long-term residency. However, work is not permitted, except in cases of volunteer work as specified by the Department of Employment (currently under development).
Visa Validity: 5 + 5 years (Multiple Entries)
Documents Required for Consideration:
- A passport that is valid for at least 6 months.
- A visa application form with a 4 x 6 cm photograph (taken within the last 6 months), in 3 sets.
- A personal history form in 1 set.
- Financial evidence (choose one of the following options):
- A bank account certification with contact information, a copy of the joint deposit passbook, and a bank statement showing a balance of no less than 3 million THB in a commercial bank in Thailand.
- Or a bank account certification with contact information, a copy of the joint deposit passbook, and a bank statement showing a balance of no less than 1.8 million THB, along with an annual income certification of no less than 1.2 million THB. There must also be a fixed deposit of no less than 3 million THB in a commercial bank in Thailand within 1 year.
- Documentation or evidence of conduct, or a criminal history certificate from the country of nationality. If the individual has permanent residence in another country, such documentation is also required from that country.
- A medical certificate from the country of application stating that the applicant does not have any prohibited diseases according to Ministry Regulation No. 14 (B.E. 2535), such as leprosy, tuberculosis in the infectious stage, elephantiasis, drug addiction, and stage 3 syphilis. The certificate must be issued within the last 3 months.
- A copy of proof of insurance (as stipulated by the Office of Insurance Commission) along with a health insurance policy in Thailand, providing coverage of no less than 40,000 THB for outpatient treatment and 400,000 THB for inpatient treatment.
Legal spouses (regardless of age) who hold nationality and passports from the 14 countries listed above must provide marriage certificates along with the applications of both the applicant and the spouse and prepare the documents mentioned above.
Legal children aged 20 years or younger (including adopted children) must provide a copy of their birth certificate or documentation confirming their status as children, along with the documents as stated in item 1 – 3 and item 7.
